Apparently Chicago hometown arch rivals IRI and ACNielsen are going to collaborate on panel data.
I never thought this would happen. Years back there seemed to be a lot of trash talking between these two firms, on how one was better than the other. Heck, they were involved in anti-trust litigation.
Panel-based data has become more important especially since Walmart stopped being a “cooperator” in industry parlance.
This data hole gets bigger and bigger when Walmart gains share. The thought is that if these firms pool their data, they will be able to overcome this information gap.
Another thought that is relatively obvious (and raised by the linked article) is that will there be further antitrust concerns raised by this move? I mean it is two arch enemies uniting as one…
